Therapy

I am able to provide intervention to support a range of communication difficulties. I work in pre-agreed blocks of sessions, either 45 or 60 minutes, to ensure a regular review point and appropriateness for continued therapy input. I can tailor the input to be weekly, fortnightly, or monthly, depending on the need and availability. I request that all therapy sessions be attended by a key adult who is very familiar with the child so that therapy activities can be modeled and carried over to achieve the best outcomes.

Assessments

I offer informal assessment through observation, liaison, and direct work with children to understand the functional impact of their communication difficulties. This involves gaining a thorough understanding of children's communication needs across various environments, including home and nursery/school. While I can provide formal speech sound assessments, formal language assessments are not within my scope. Written reports are available upon request.

About Beccy

I am an enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist, specialising in working with children. I have worked locally in Surrey and London across a range of settings, including mainstream schools, special schools, social communication/language units, rehabilitation centres, and hospitals. Having worked previously for the Surrey Schools Speech and Language Therapy service, I am knowledgeable about local processes and procedures. I pride myself on my ability to work flexibly with a broad range of client groups but specialize in complex communication needs arising from neurodisability, such as autism, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), and learning disability. I take a functional approach to therapy, targeting communication to support everyday life. I particularly enjoy implementing Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) into children and families’ routines, community life, and preferred activities. I work collaboratively with schools, families, and professionals to ensure that the best outcomes are achieved.

Beccy is formally trained in:
  • Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD)
  • Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
  • Grid 3 Smartbox
  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)
